Setup Yomitan PC

  • Yomitan is a mouse hover dictionary for Japanese
  • Used for mining to Anki
  • Yomitan Light | Dark Mode

Download and Install

  • Install Yomitan Chrome or Yomitan Firefox

  • Download yomitan dictionary, lazyXel-yomitan-settings(download both) and Font from here

    • Extract Font.7z and yomitan dictionary.7z
    • yomitan dictionary.7z should only be extracted once, don't extract the dictionary itself

Setting Up

  1. On Yomitan's welcome page, scroll down > Permissions page > enable clipboardRead and nativeMessaging

  2. Go to chrome://extensions or edge://extensions or about:addons(firefox) and go to Yomitan extension settings

  3. Make sure for:

    • Chrome/Edge: Allow access to file URLs is enabled
    • Firefox: Access your data for all websites is enabled

  4. Install the Fonts by opening them from the Font folder

  5. Go to Yomitan’s settings page (Click on the extension’s icon then click on the cog icon from the popup)

  6. Go to Dictionary > Configure installed and enabled dictionaries... > Import

    • Import all the dictionaries from yomitan dictionary folder (You can select them all and import all at once)

  7. Then Scroll down, in Backup > Import Settings > lazyxel-yomitan-settings (from the extracted folder)

    • If you are interested on installing Yomitan Local Audio pick lazyXel-local-audio, otherwise lazyXel-non-local-audio
    • Import NOT Sanitize and Import

  8. Pick a profile(Default and Editing), usually between Monolingual and Bilingual (other profiles will be discussed in other sections)

    • Bilingual is default, you can hold alt while hovering over a word to use the Monolingual profile

  9. You should now be able to hover over words!

    • To change hotkey, Yomitan settings > Scanning > Scan modifier key

Info 2: Yomitan Local Audio

  1. Download everything from torrent or magnet link: local-yomitan-audio-collection-2023-06-11-opus.tar.xz file

    • If you are using AnkiMobile on iOS, Android 4(very unlikely) or AnkiWeb: torrent or magnet link local-yomitan-audio-collection-2023-06-11-mp3.tar.xz file
  2. Within Anki: either Ctrl + Shift + A or Tools > Add-ons > Get Add-ons... > 1045800357 > restart Anki

  3. Extract local-yomitan-audio-collection and paste the user_files folder to:

  4. On Add-ons window > select the Local Audio Server for Yomitan > View Files

  5. Or C:\Users\YourUser\AppData\Roaming\Anki2\addons21\1045800357

  6. My local-audio-yomitan settings OR if you are not using my profile:

  7. Go to Yomitan settings > Audio > Configure audio playback sources... > Add > Custom URL (JSON)
  8. Paste http://localhost:5050/?term={term}&reading={reading} and make sure it's on the top

  9. Check if it's working:
